A delightfully pointed warning for theoretical physicists, Alberta. We spend our lives polishing elegant equations only to forget that the universe is notoriously messy and indifferent to our chalkboard geometry.
It applies just as easily to city planners, Albert. They draft pristine grids on paper, completely surprised when humans insist on carving unruly desire paths across the lawn to reach the bakery faster.
Quite. The abstraction is tidy and comfortable, whereas the territory demands boots, raincoats, and the indignity of getting muddy.
Yet we can't survive without the map, either. The secret isn't throwing it away, but remembering it's merely a sketch of someone else's journey, not the soil beneath our feet.
Duly noted. I shall endeavour to look out the window today rather than simply admiring the barometer.
